Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) is an intermediate filament protein which has 50-kDa of molecular weight. GFAP is an astrocyte specific marker and is known to increase its expression level in various neurodegenerative disorder such as Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis and prion disease.
Mouse glial cells in mixed cerebral cortex cultures stained with GFAP antibody (ROI003) at 1:300 dilution. Astrocytes stained in green. Nuclear DNA stained with DAPI (4',6-Diamidino-2- phenylindole, dihydrochloride) in blue.
