Anti human HLA class I (HLA-A,B,C) monoclonal antibody


Class I major histocompatibility complex proteins (MHC class I) are present on the surface of virtually all nucleated vertebrate cells and play a central role in immune surveillance (self/non-self recognition). On the cell surface, MHC class I molecules are composed of one membrane bound heavy chain (alpha chain) bound non-covalently to beta-2 microglobulin. MHC class I proteins function to present antigens to CD8+ T cells and form ligands for receptors on natural killer (NK) cells. Expression levels of MHC class I molecules may vary greatly in response to viral infection, neoplasia, and other abnormal conditions.
In humans, MHC molecules are referred to as HLA (human leukocyte antigens). The class I human HLA isotypes HLA-A, HLA-B, and HLA-C are the most polymorphic of the six human class I isotypes. Clone EMR8-5 recognizes a non-polymorphic determinant present on all on HLA-A, -B, and -C heavy chains that is stable following formalin fixation and is thus the first antibody useful for monitoring the expression of HLA-A, -B, and -C in formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded sections. Clone EMR8-5 is also useful for western blotting.
